NEVER BEEN IN LOVE EP
12 Inch
30.11.16
last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis werent often preferred to fist pumping bangers. wanting to flex his lovin spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in westons warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

INTENTION OF MORTAL REMIXED
12 Inch
30.11.16
blaring and unnerving, yyyy s intention of mortal gets revisited with a remix package featuring lucy, varg, ascion and yyyy themselves, resulting in a barrage of arpeggiated behaviour and regimented soundscapes. a force pushing forward creativity with on-point refinement, lucy immediately veers in with his visceral power of sound. an avalanche of intricate and experimental arrangement soon meets a series of astute percussion and typical foreboding energy, retaining a certain texture-over-beat throughout. yyyy s depth of music imagination & influence is heard in this highly charged, awestricken ensemble for their rework of intention of mortal . unfolding a mixture of fear and complication, this track keeps you thinking as well as moving. an almost endless supply of plucked synth rhythm keeps the chaos taut and throughout. ascion s remix of stone relief of gods faces credits the release with clean kicks, industrial clanks and atmospheric keys. this no-nonsense approach to production is not to be underestimated, a dream-state sequence of induced electronic abstraction. the first and most immediate observation of b2 is vargs take on reach for forgiveness - a menacing, pin-sharp account of the visceral power of techno, dialling in to both tense and euphoric. the ambiguity of each track lends itself to its success, meticulous in detail and curated with passion. a release that divulges the mysterious sonic world and deviates from the expected.

after the release of their collaborative breed ep at the end of last summer, nicole moudaber and skin (from skunk anansie) have unveiled their highly anticipated remix package featuring a long list of respected producers. carl craig, fur coat, jamie jones, jerome sydenham, paco osuna, pan-pot and scuba, are just some of the names which have turned their hand to the project. originally born out of nicole and skin s desire to fuse their rock and techno backgrounds, this is a true collaboration project with a difference. the pair have also recently been sharing the stage at high-profile slots such as space ibiza and coachella. the first track on the second part see s don t talk to me i m dancin remixed by hot creation boss jamie jones, which features a thudding heavy bassline, and zebra katz vocals sampled over the top. the second track on the a side see s french emotive techno specialist paul ritch turns in an atmospheric, driving remix of these walls are made of water . first up on the b side is pan-pot s take on these walls are made of water , adding the duo s characteristic stomping touch, as well as dramatic new synth melodies. this remix is another nicole favourite, often featured in her sets and her in the mood radio shows. rounding off the b side jerome sydenham remixes don t talk to me i m dancin feat. zfk and takes the track into uptempo driving territory.

br1002 with 3 tracks of pure evil techno plus a powerful remix by d. carbone.
acclaimed be as one boss shlomi aber makes a big step up here by putting out a trio of his killer techno cuts on the always excellent and forward looking nonplus label run by boddika. his xy play ep continues in his no nonsense, floor facing style and impresses once more. shlomi aber is an underground titan who runs his own musical empire in the form of his be as one label. he has made it into an essential outlet for no frills house and techno and his own output has found him in fine favour with djs and dancers alike. playing all over the world and also serving as an expert at the emerging ibiza festival on the white isle, here he comes correct once more. the title ep xy play is a brain frying affair with cantering drums and stern synths bringing a dark and intone vibe to the groove. way old story is just as heads down but less ominous, here the synths are a little spooky and add intrigue to his slick rubbery drums. last but not least related sources is a hunched over house track with dub in its kick drums and a desolate industrial feel in the landscapes above. atmospheric from the first to the last moment, this is another killer ep from shlomi aber.

south brooklyn s p. leone returns for his second release on spencer parker s work them records with four atmospheric techno cuts this november. earning his stripes in new york and tokyo, p. leone is an established dj however since turning his hand to producing his talents in the studio are indisputable. echoing kicks and piercing stabs form the effervescent 9v9 before a chugging low end works alongside tantalising effects in cold metallic . next up, stability control generates a dusky aesthetic with moody bass throbs and saw like synths until the high-octane apex corners concludes the package with a relentless energy.

after a refreshing and vibey summer of sun, beats & parties, dext hq is firing up for our next release which is set to drop this autumn it is an absolute pleasure to welcome back one of our stable artists, callahan, for the follow up to his well-received dext debut don t need. callous ep shows the same rawness and intensity of his earlier work but with a more polished and refined production sound, focusing on a few key elements that are executed to perfection. right from the off, the title track callous draws you in with its haunting and somewhat dystopian synth line that rides along the track s jagged percussion. the result is the kind of danceable groove that has become the calling card of the more exciting techno music to come out of the uk in recent years.

2x12 Inch LP
29.11.16
octave one announce new album love by machine a year after their impressive last album burn it down, detroit techno legends octave one are back with a nine track double ep that again shows they are masters of big hypnotic grooves. entitled love by machine, the albums name is a nod to the fact that the burden brothers are such revered masters of their hardware. both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward thinking performers in the game today. that is all the more impressive when you bear in mind they have been active since the 80s, most often releasing on their own 430 west label, which is where they appear again here. say lenny: weve been exploring the theme of connection with this project. how technology gives us the illusion that we are closer to each other more than ever. at some point humanity crossed a line where the devices that we created to bring us together are the same devices that are blocking us from organic experiences.

the fourth laq is proudly made by attics owner fabrizio lapiana. his melodic techno taste is employed into each track moving from hypnotic hard strings of the cold in summer to the sour and acidic groove of acid smiles (both on the first side). in the b-side fabrizio goes into more hypnotic and obsessive sound. a sort of progressive-techno vibes served to people who never-stop dancing.
dyad present the second instalment of their common purpose series. vsk sets things in motion with the seductively brutal echinopsis before dont be afraid boss semtek launches his new techno-focused guise stk with the crafty analogue techno of machete. on the b-side, blueprints rommek contributes some of his most captivating work yet in klaxon, and to round things off argentinian artist tomas kunkel is given his first vinyl outing with the malian rhythms of altered chants.
the europe-centered techno scene might be thinking: where is techno in a city as vast, dynamic and electric as new york? its alive and well, and keeps growing through aptly-named new york trax. founded in 2016 and based in brooklyn, new york trax is an outlet for new york music, by new york artists, in new york city. new york trax 02 was written by boris brenecki (ontal, impulse controls), who has recently relocated to new york, starting a new chapter in his life and artistic career. this record is the very first material he produced in new york, heavily inspired by the city and its people. the oven, with its continuous filthy groove intensified by metallic percussions, is a serious candidate for an instant classic and a deadly weapon when used on a dancefloor. the grittiness of the oven was depicted through images of the less beaten paths of new york in a well-received official video published recently by the label. dark yet insanely dynamic transit system, based on field recordings of the new york city subway, opens with a bang the b side of the record, followed by strictly hardcore, a sonic manifesto of brutality. get it while its hot!

manchester native alex coulton has nurtured a reputation for creating sub-heavy rollers thanks to 12s for the likes of black acre, livity sound and bloc. with gamma ray burst, the next in his series of releases on london low-end specialists tempa, coulton consolidates his sound to deliver some of the most sparse, rhythmic work of his career. with the records title track, coulton weaves from hard-hitting kicks, through to dizzying tribal polyrhythms the whole time maintaining a minimal, space driven atmosphere that remains omnipresent throughout the tracks most intense moments. ground zero revels in its spaciousness, allowing reverb to flood into the negative space between flashes of heavyweight techno percussion and saturated ripples of synth while the pulsating kicks that underpin alpha decay are punctuated with bleak, discordant bells, rhythmic bass hits and hypnotic filtered percussion. showing his diverse abilities, phase two is an exercise in measured restraint, as a cacophony of clicks and hisses come together to disorientate before forming a driving rhythm section before coulton maximises his expansive elements on the fog-tinged ascent. closing with the steady flowing, brighter-hued melodic work of distant resonance, alex coulton has created a masterful collection of experimental tech-focused electronica that bewilders, intrigues and will draw the listener in with each play.

avalon emersons latest ep, narcissus in retrograde, explores four different styles that shape her distinct voice as a producer and songwriter, from symphonic showstoppers to broken acid. opener natural impasse ferries massive melodic themes through a network of emotive capillaries thats underpinned by charging drums, while dystopian daddy dons a theatrical flare with costume-changing arpeggiators and digital brass beef that command attention like a stage-hogging space alien diva lip-syncing for new wig money. the b-side takes a more menacing turn with why does it hurt, the outright techno achievement of the record, and the snarling closer groundwater. ethereal vocals on the former punctuate kicks and growls that sound like they were pulled from a pedal monsters electric guitar, and on groundwater, a crucible of fucked breaks and acid cut a ravine through a bed of off-staccato hats and a sample swamp.

keeping up their fine schedule, the spazio disponibile label is back with a fifth excellent ep, this time from modes. modes is an artist who is making his debut here, and he is one of a few guys spazio is creating a platform for in the coming months. modes fits right in with the deeply subliminal, transcendental style of the label and its associated party in rome. opener m52 is a supple and sci-fi mix of smooth rubber kicks and millsian melodies that are trippy and hypnotic. m51 is darker and moodier, with smeared pads and grainy ambience making for a big and shadowy chamber of end-of-days techno that is full of foreboding, and finally m44 is more forceful and brutal, with reverb and electricity static adding texture to the cavernous airwaves. compelling from start to finish, this is a fantastic debut from modes.
